Guru ( 2006 ) Movie Review & soundtrack & Guru ( 2002)

Now there are 2 movies Named The Guru One is an English Movie ( which is quite an entertaining one ) and the other is our own bollywood Desi Movie the one starring Abhishek bachan which is equally good.A short review from me on the Bollywood one.

Guru is a forthcoming Hindi film to be directed by Mani Ratnam. Guru is inspired from a corporate war between the two groups of Mumbai controlled by Dhirubhai Ambani of Reliance and Nusli Wadia of Bombay Dyeing. Abhishek Bachchan is stated to be playing the character of the Reliance’s founder Late Dhirubhai Ambani.

The movie also stars Mallika Sherawat in a cameo which plays a significant part in the narrative of the film and Mithun Chakraborty in a supporting role.
The movie will also be dubbed in Tamil and Telugu. Music is composed by A. R. Rahman and lyrics is by Gulzar.
The film’s score and soundtrack are outstanding. The songs are of the kind that may not become a craze of the nation within a fortnight of the album’s release but have all the valid reasons to become further popular if the film hits the bull’s eye!

Rahman fans only have their hands full with later when they get to hear some of his best tracks like ‘Rang De Basanti’ [Rang De Basanti], ‘Ghanan Ghanan’ [Lagaan], ‘Hum Hai Iss Pal Yahan’ [Kisna], ‘Dheeme Dheeme’ [Zubeidaa] and ‘Yeh Rishta’ [Meenakshi] that have been added on as a bonus. In the end, ‘Guru’ leaves quite a classy impression. On one side there are some lovable songs like ‘Barso Re’, ‘Bin Tere’ and ‘Mayya’ while on the other side there is a track like ‘Jaage Hain’. Though ‘Ay Hairathe’ would invite mixed response, ‘Ek Lo Ek Muft and ‘Baazi Laga’ would have to depend a lot on the way they are presented on screen.
This film will release on 22nd of December, 2006.

The Guru (2002) Hollywood Version Review

Starring: Heather Graham, Marisa Tomei, Jimi Mistry, Michael McKean, Christine BaranskiDirector: Daisy Von Scherler Mayer

Ramu Gupta (Jimi Mistry) is a young man from Delhi who dreams of becoming an American movie star. In pursuit of his ambitions, he leaves his home and moves to New York, where he discovers that getting into the movies may be harder than he thought. Working as a waiter, he believes he has succeeded when he lands a role in a film, not realising it is a pornographic movie. Failing miserably in his role of porn stud, the film role does at least introduce him to porn star Sharonna (Heather Graham) who gives him much advice about sex.
Returning to his waiting job, Ramu is serving at a party where a wise old guru is expected to be the main attraction. The guru, however, becomes dead drunk and passes out, creating a crisis until Ramu undertakes to pretend to be the guru. The fascinated party guests are captivated by his advice on sex, not realising that it is merely what Sharonna has told him. In particular, Lexi (Marisa Tomei) takes him under her wing and promotes him heavily as a sex guru, requiring him to return to Sharonna for more lessons which she thinks are to help him with his porn career. Things become complicated when he falls for Sharonna, and has to start facing up to his deceptions.

The film is entertaining and lively, occasionally bursting into song Bollywood-style, including a song-and-dance routine to ‘You’re the One that I Want’ from the film Grease. A charming piece of silliness rather than a serious full-on comedy, it nonetheless provides plenty of entertainment. It pokes fun at American gullibility and the fashion for following gurus and spiritual leaders, but with fondness rather than any kind of attack. While there is no real brilliance from the cast, all have their entertaining moments.
